Wellness In the Workplace
What does Wellness mean to you?
Have you ever stopped and asked yourself what “Wellness” means to you? Wellness means the state of being in good health, especially as an active goal. We are in a movement of focusing on health and wellness, physically, mentally and spiritually and it’s about time. Life can’t simply be living on a hamster wheel as I call it. Doing the same thing day in and day out and in a constant state of stress and worry. If you look around, without judgement of course, just observe the people around you or maybe look at your own lifestyle. Are you eating healthy, exercising regularly, addressing causes of illness vs treating symptoms, being present for family and friends, feeling joy and simply enjoying life?
We are in a day and age of constant stimulation, our minds constantly moving and technology always keeps connected to everyone and too many things. This over stimulation creates stress in our mental, emotional and physical bodies. As a yoga instructor and energy healer I have many clients, men and women who have so much tension in their bodies its created chronic pain and/or an emotional imbalance. You may be asking “What does this have to do with the workplace?”. Ask people “What causes the most stress in their life?” Most will answer “my job or money”. The two in my opinion go hand and hand. Believe me after years of being in the sales industry, getting paid based on 100% commission, I understand this stress. I made a decision a couple years ago to get off the hamster wheel and while that may not be an option for everyone I want to support employees that need tools to support stress reduction in the workplace and their personal lives.
As the instructor of Wellness in the Workplace I teach breathing techniques and mindfulness practices that have scientifically proven* to reduce stress and anxiety. Wellness in the Workplace yoga is a gentle yoga practice designed for employees on their feet all day or sitting behind a desk, it promotes increase in energy levels as well as supporting relaxation.
